Inspired by Rev. David Muñoz, Pastor from South
America
“And be not drunk with wine,
wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;” (Ephesians 5:18)
“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath
said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)
i walked into the village
a small and quiet town
the occupants were friendly
i thought i’d settle down
at night the music rose, and
the people gathered near
i watched them all with interest
to see what i might hear
It lasted several hours
without an end in sight
a large man named Enrique
stepped out into the night
he had too much to drink, and
his speech was hard to hear
Enrique stumbled over
and smiling ear-to-ear
(he said...)
“Have a drink with me, my friend
you look a little dry
It’s the best wine in the land
come on now, just a try
Tonight my heart is happy
I come to celebrate
Why not drink with me tonight
Just try this wine, it’s great!”
somebody made excuses
and led the man away
“He’s had too much to drink, and
he don’t know what he say...
We know you are a Christian
we know you don’t approve
we’re sorry for Enrique
We’ll tell him please to move”
But then i started thinking
although Enrique’s wrong
to fill with wine (the mocker)
to fill with drink so strong
At least his heart was open
to share the thing he knew
would wash away his sorrows
and make him feel brand new
Inside me is the Spirit
that manifests God’s love
that heals all my diseases
and makes my home above
He doesn’t cause hangover
He will not make you die
i should be like Enrique
inviting men to try
(saying...)
“Have a drink with me, my friend
you look a little dry
There’s a New Wine in the land
come on now, just a try
The New Wine is the Spirit
of Jesus Christ, the King
Why not drink with me tonight
We’ll lift our hearts and sing”
If you’re drunken in the Spirit
You’ll feel the urge to share
If you’re drunken in the Spirit
You’ll cast away your cares
A stranger you will welcome
to come and enter in
If you’re drunken in the Spirit
You’ll be controlled by Him
