In 1908, officers of Siloam Baptist Church bought four lots on Willow Street, from Russell Corson for the sum of $1,000. These lots, numbered 123, 133, 134, and 135, were part of the original farm known as the “Lewis Farm Tract.” Reverend Howard (then Pastor) built the basement walls of the church. That was the extent of what could be accomplished at that time.
Following Reverend Howard, Reverend J.R. Wills began his tenure. He supervised completion of the interior of the basement and, later, conducted the first worship services on Willow Street.
When Reverend Reuben J. Johnston became pastor, his desire was to expand the edifice. He obtained stones from Peter Hoy, Norristown Fire Chief and owner of a quarry. The present stone edifice is the result of his industry and vision. Stained glass windows were also installed during his administration.
The parsonage at 1223 Willow Street was purchased during the Johnston administration. On September 10, 1917, two lots (including the house) were purchased from George and Ann Buckley through John Westney, Realtor®.
