“Facing the
Immensities of Life |
||
| Preacher Rev. David Minus [Former Pastor] Date Scripture Text |
Young people today are in a wild and wicked
world, trying to achieve by themselves. But, in spite of the
immensities of life that we have to face, the God of David sits high and
looks low. He is there to guide and protect you. We must
face the immensities of life with David’s God.
God quickly came to the aid of this shepherd boy. God will come to your aid and lead you through and make you victorious. Goliath was about 9½ feet tall. That is an immensity. His weapons, armor, and attitude kept Israel at bay for 40 long days. They were afraid of this immense, awesome giant. They did not accept the challenge. David was Jesse’s teenaged son, too young to join the army, so he was watching the sheep at home. If you are faithful, God will open a door for you. God will make a way for you. God will set a table for you. God will anoint your head with oil. God will lead you through the valley of the shadow of death. Jesse sent David to give his sons food. He was a good father. David took five stones and a sling and ran near to the 9½ foot tall immensity, the Philistine giant. Come out from among them and be separated unto God. Giants are real. Be they people, places, things, principalities, situations or encounters. Whatever they be, they must be faced. The immensities of life must be faced and dealt with. They are on every corner. They can be so frustrating that all resources at your disposal must be used for your survival. To take a quote from first lady Hillary Clinton, it takes a village and a church for the children’s survival. Don’t ignore the immensities of life. They must be dealt with. The big things in your life:
Keep the children in your prayers. Have them in church for an hour after school. Like David needed God, all of us have a need for God. Every day, every hour. God should be the first One you speak to in the morning... the last One you speak to at night. If you wake up in the middle of the night, speak to the Lord then. There are not only young devils, but also old devils. The army of Israel was afraid and dismayed at Goliath. If a young man comes to a young lady with a line and lots of compliments, don’t you believe him. Go to battle and fight one on one. Say no to gambling, shacking, pregnancy, abortion... say no. Stumbling blocks can be stepping stones. If God be for us, who can be against us? David didn’t let those odds discourage him. He didn’t give into fear. He didn’t procrastinate. He ventured forth with a committed effort to win when the odds were against him. You may fall down, but you need to get up. David’s God has all power. He knows all things. He is everywhere. We need to know how to accept the challenge of the immense thing. Go forth with David’s God. Go forth defeating the giants. Go forth to do battle. You have to fight yourself. We are living in a complicated world. But with God, you can make it, you can achieve with God. You can say “no” to the devil with God. Success comes not because of you but in spite of you. |
